Critics Compare Julia Roberts' Acting to 'Lamp Post'

In non-Cruise news, hottie turned recluse JULIA ROBERTS debuted in the play "Three Days of Rain" last night on Broadway and the critics were there with daggers in hand! The New York Times compared the "Pretty Woman"'s acting to "the unyielding stiffness of an industrial lamp post," saying her "voice is strangled, abrupt and often hard to hear. She has the tenseness of a woman who might break in to pieces at any second." The Chicago Tribune found Roberts' performance "so introspective and lacking in sexual energy that it feels almost apologetic." Of course, that didn't stop simpering sycophant OPRAH from gushing, "I'm so excited!" as she dashed into the theater. Hundreds of fans supposedly packed the narrow city block outside the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on 45th Street in Manhattan and stars like Tony Soprano JAMES GANDOLFINI, DIANE SAWYER, rocker DAVE MATTHEWS and TIM ROBBINS and SUSAN SARANDON all packed the house.

Not just daggers, but some interesting observations. Here's from Roger Friedman:

You may be interested to know that Julia’s Playbill notes, which are very short, give us a clue about her favorites among her films. She lists "Ocean’s Twelve," "Closer," "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind," "Full Frontal," "Ocean’s Eleven," "The Mexican," "Erin Brockovich" and "My Best Friend’s Wedding."

They are weird choices considering that "Ocean’s Twelve," "The Mexican" and "Full Frontal" are completely awful; she had a bit part in "Confessions"; and Cameron Diaz came close to stealing every scene in "Wedding."

Where is her signature film, "Pretty Woman" or "Mystic Pizza," "The Runaway Bride," "The Pelican Brief," "Notting Hill," "Steel Magnolias" (Oscar nomination there), "Conspiracy Theory," "Mona Lisa Smile" or "Stepmom"?

Me: But what about "Flatliners"???

everyone will get a chance to see her in "real life" without the tricky camera angles and special lighting she is no raging beauty. this is a much over due humility check for Ms. Julia. Don't forget, she moved in on a married man and made him her own.
